So we started with Omaha beach - which was absolutely lovely and we had a nice lunch down by the beach. After that we drove to Pakiri beach, where the surf was so big that Per quickly got back in... but it looked amazing!!
The weather was again amazing, so we decided to go to the beach - or basically we wanted to visit a few beaches to find out which one was the best :) So we started with Omaha beach - which was absolutely lovely and we had a nice lunch down by the beach. The city was buzzing and we wanted to be part of the celebrations. So we went to see what was happening around town together with Nick and Ali. There was a wonderful display of old photos - huge photos - from Auckland through the years - a lot of fun to see how it all started. And the police and navy were showing off their 'toys' and even the tug-boats were out - dancing around - it's amazing how they can turn on a dime... And.. we went home to us and had dinner and watched it all from our deck - and then.. amazing fireworks from Skytower :)) Today a walk in Wenderholm Park together with Nick and Ali - again north of Auckland. And again - amazing weather. This summer is the best we've ever had I think! We had a nice walk end then a nice lunch down by the beach - and.... afternoon tea and cakes at Puhoi Cottage... A trip to Waiheke with Nick and Ali. Nick had rented a car so that we could get around the island - and that's where the fun started... Waiheke is an island - and therefore everything is in island 'mode' as we call it. So the car we'd rented was not by the ferry where it was supposed to be, so we had to drive in a mini-van - and there wasn't enough room for everybody, so Nick had to sit on the floor - and that's not easy on Waiheke, where the roads are very bumpy and not very straight... But we survived and found our car :) We then drove to Stony Batter and took a walk here - and then it was time for lunch. Nick had reserved a beautiful table at Poderi Crisci - the best restaurant on the island - and what a wonderful lunch !! After that it was time to relax a bit, so we hit the beach and some had a little sleep... before it was time for dinner :) In Oneroa Nick and Ali knew about this little place called the Oyster Inn, and again - what beautiful food - amazing. Best fish and chips - ever. And then down to the ferry and back home. What a truly amazing day - and the weather... well, just look at it.. :) Another of our walks - and this time again north of Auckland in Shakespeare Park. Absolutely beautiful - and the weather... see for yourselves! And again - up and down, up and down... :) HAPPY NEW YEAR - YAHOOOOO !! Every New Years Eve Per is making the most amazing dinner - usually with around 7 courses, and all I can do is eat and enjoy - how lucky am I !!!! |
