Their food is different as well - using much more pig fat than in Tuscany. They make the most amazing flat bread and I've been eating a lot of it - until Per told me it's made with a lot of pig fat (lardo) - and suddenly I wasn't so keen anymore.... :) Also they use wild fennel a lot and don't know what eggs and bacon is.... :)
After a couple of days in Urbino we went for a drive to the coast - the Eastern coast (took about an hour) - as Per wanted to try the water. We had thought about staying in one of the towns along the water - but after having seen it, I'm really glad we didn't !! It was one big circus - and felt quite depressing. Especially depressing since the little cafes were closed for the season, but apparently if you're there during high season, the beach is covered in beach chairs and parasols - AND, you are not allowed to use the beach without paying for it. So you can walk along the water - but you're not allow to stand or sit still..... There are free beaches as they call them - but they are of course not the best ones.... And then - here's the worst thing about it all - and what made it so depressing. The trains drive along the coast - and this is what it looks like when you drive along the coast in your car....... there's absolutely no view - all you can see are all the cables and you can only cross very few places to get down to the beach.
First photo is Pesaro beach..... (from internet) and the other photo I took when driving our car along the coast.....
