Bosa is a small town only 46 km. from Alghero and the road to Bosa was beautiful - following the coast all the way. Bosa itself doesn't look like much when you first approach or enter the town. It's not until you find your way up towards the castle that you find lots of little houses - in lots of colours. Getting up to the castle is a bit of a climb but the views are worth it.... just look out for all the dog poo on the streets.... (such a shame that people don't pick up after their dogs in Italy :( ) And after visiting the castle, time for a well-deserved lunch :)

We've now arrived in Alghero on the North Western side of Sardinia - and this is us, this is our place. It's not as expensive and arrogant/snobby as the Northern part (Smeralda - Olbia and North) and it's way more charming and nice than Cagliari (South) There's a very charming old part of town - in between city walls and old towers and you can sit and eat lunch or dinner right by the city wall and the sea. And our hotel is only 10 minutes walk from the old town, so just perfect location. Well, I've been down with a cold now for the last four days.... so Per's been exploring and relaxing on his own :(
He's enjoying - very much - going to the market to shop for groceries and then cook us a lovely meal in the evening. And - the weather has been amazing all the time we've been here in Sardinia, so Per is getting a nice tan - as usual and get to really relax - which was the whole idea :) Right after breakfast we left to go find this indoor market we've read about. It should be the biggest in Europe so we were pretty excited. But first we had to find it and somehow Per had marked it wrong on the map and in the end he had to use the phone to find the way - the paper map simply wasn't accurate enough :) We found it - closer to our apartment - and spent a bit of time walking around, just to get a feel for the market. Afterwards we tried to get to the old town - but as many old towns it was built on top of a hill behind some very big walls - and all the lifts to the old town were out of order...... Not very accommodating for tourists. We tried three different ways of getting up there, but we didn't succeed and after three hours of walking I was just too tired to walk up there, so we decided to wait with that till tomorrow and went to find some lunch instead.
This morning after breakfast we packed up and left Olbia in the North to drive to Cagliari in the South. On the way we visited one of the best beaches in the North - it's called 'The Tahiti'en beach' - and it was nice, but.... nothing we haven't seen before in either Greece or New Zealand. And... as always in Italy - you have to pay to access the beach - or the grass behind.... And - the beach is not very wide so I can only imagine what it'll be like during high season. Today we were there early and it was already starting to get busy - in a couple of hours this beach must be completely full - and we're out of season..... After the beach Per had a plan for lunch - a very special place where they do little suckling pigs - so even though it took us about an hour to get there - we just had to try it. After lunch we had about 2½ hours to drive to Cagliari and lucky enough there was a 2 lane highway and later motorway to Cagliari. But.... how they can call it even a highway I don't understand - there were so many holes and bumps in the road that we almost went though the roof a couple of times. But - we got there. And we even found a park - which is quite amazing in Italy :) And the apartment is really nice - with wonderful views, so I'm sure we'll have a wonderful week here exploring the city - and the biggest food market in Europe :D
Today is our birthday and so far it's been a beautiful day! We slept in - which was nice - had a nice breakfast and then we drove to a sweet little town not too far from our hotel. It's the town where all the rich people come during summer-time, really rich people. So it's very fancy - too fancy for our taste, but we just walked around and took some photos and then had lunch overlooking the water. So a nice, relaxing day :) Per had arranged a special menu for our dinner at the hotel - all a big surprise - and I love surprises, so it was a lovely, lovely evening. Waking up in our room in Sardinia we were quite excited to see what it looked like. Not nice arriving at a new place when it's dark - but it was our only option, unless we'd taken a night in Bologna. And lucky for us, it seemed like a very nice hotel/resort, very isolated in the mountains, so very quiet. The stile is.... is it called Santa Fe maybe? Low houses, in earthy colours with stone and wood everywhere - very much our style :) Since we didn't have our luggage we spent the first day in Sardinia shopping - using our insurance money :) And lucky for us the weather was a bit cloudy, so we didn't feel like we were missing out on anything. So a whole day in an outlet mall..... very tired when we arrived back home at the hotel :) But - at least we had something to wear, including clean underwear :D Monday (today), we decided to take it easy, but...... around lunch time we took a little drive to visit a little town we could see from our window. We ended up having lunch here, and it was very nice and authentic. Authentic in the way the food was cooked - a bit different from other places in Italy. The mussels were made with olive oil and vinegar, which is not something we're used to in Italy - but I think we could get used to it :) Sardinia - we think - is a bit similar to Greece in that the roads and the vegetation/landscape looks just like Greece. Of course the houses are different, and the food - and there are mountains here that looks similar to the Dolomites - which is one of our favourite places in Italy. The mountains are very majestic and has a special form - will take some photos later :) In the meantime here're some of the stones/rocks that are everywhere.
