This morning we went truffle hunting! Almost too good to be true :) We went to the truffle hunters home - where he had info about truffles and also happened to own his own forest - full of truffles. So we were told a bit about truffles and then we got to meet the truffle dogs :) We then proceeded to the forest - opposite the house - and let the dog loose. It didn't take long before he found his first truffle and within an hour we'd (the dog) found 3 truffles :) 2 black and 1 white truffle - with the white being the most valuable. It's a bit of a moment when the dog finds the truffle, as the dogs really like them and therefore you have to get to the truffle before the dog - which is not always easy. We then went back to the house and then we got to taste the truffles!

There're two restaurants here at our hotel - probably because we're out in the middle of no where.... Or - you have to drive to get to another restaurant. We tried the Truffle Bistro the day we arrived - Tuesday - and it wasn't bad - but it wasn't anything to write home about either. Per's first course was really good - veal and tuna, but the rest was 'so so'. Yesterday (Wednesday) we tried the other restaurant - Guido da Costigliole - with 1 Michelin star..... We don't normally like Michelin star restaurants, as they are usually too pretentious - but since we're out in the middle of nowhere - we HAD to try this restaurant. And it started out as expected - pretentious. But - when the food arrived we forgave them everything! The food was amazing. Yes - tiny portions, but what was there was absolutely beautiful! It was so good we have to try it again tonight :) And we weren't disappointed Thursday night either.... the food was just sooo good! Tuesday morning we left to go North - to Piemonte. Piemonte is THE wine and truffle area :) So guess who was REALLY looking forward to this..... But then Per had a surprise - he'd organised yoga for me - twice a day with a private tutor :) So I'm sure we're going to have a great time here :) We might even go truffle hunting - which could be fun! And.. there's a sauna here - made from an old wine barrel - so I know where to find Per at all time :D |
G&PThis is our blog - we use this to keep track of what we've done and where we've been.... as we can't always remember :) Archives
