We had four days in Fiskenæs with 'the M-Family' in a bach. And we visited all the places that Per remembered from when he was a child going on holiday at his grand-ma's in Padborg - very close to Fiskenæs. A lovely time - and the weather actually behaved which was nice!

After one week in the Northern part of Jutland with Tina, Janus and Lucas - we're now with 'The M-family' - Mette, Morten, Maja, Mathias and Silke - in the Southern part of Jutland. We started out with 3 days on Fanø - a small island off the west coast of Jutland. The ferry takes about 15 minutes to get to Fanø, so not that far :) Years and years ago Per and I spent New Years eve on the island and I've been there before that as well - and always loved it. But... things have changed over the last 15 years and it's way too commercial now. All the little sheds with amber and many of the little cozy places are gone - all for the German tourists. So still a nice place but not a place I would want to go back to again. After three days on Fanø we continued to the east coast of Jutland - very close to the German border. Here we'll stay for four days and Per will show us around his ancestors 'places' - which he'll love. On the way we did a stop in Ribe - one of our favourite towns in Jutland. We had lunch along the water there in a very sweet little place called 'the seal'. And then a few photos from our a trip to Flensburg in Germany - just on the other side of the border. And a visit to Per's parents resting place in Padborg. Saturday we drove to Jutland - meeting up with Tina, Janus and Lucas at the ferry. We'd rented a bach in Tversted - in the northern part of Jutland - not far from the 'top' :) On the way to the bach I had a meeting with my dealer gallery in Århus and I'd brought two paintings from New Zealand. Really nice to see the gallery 'live' instead of just on the internet and good to meet the owner - Gitte - again. After the meeting we drove to Skørpinge, to meet Janus' parents for the first time - Kirsten and Tony. And they'd made a huge lunch - very, very nice (and they were really nice as well :D ). We only had a short time though, as we needed to go and pick up the keys for the bach, so we'd arranged for them to come visit us in the bach the next day - for Sunday brunch. While in Tversted we also met up with HP and Esther, who has a bach very close to where we're staying - sooo nice to meet them again. They visited us in NZ not long ago so it was good to catch up with them while here. And we saw one of Esther's beautiful quilts - wish I could do this - may have to learn this!! Other than that we just enjoyed ourselves. We took trips to Løkken, to Skagen - of course - and just enjoyed the area. Absolutely loved the dunes - such an amazing area before getting to the beach. And we also visited Råbjerg Mile - the closest we get to a desert in Denmark. From Wikipedia: It is the largest moving dune in Northern Europe with an area of around 1 km2 (0.4 mi2) and a height of 40 m (130 ft) above sea level. The dune contains a total of 4 million m3 of sand. The wind moves it in a north-easterly direction up to 18 metres (59 ft) a year. It was a lot of fun running down the dunes and Lucas really enjoyed himself - and so did the rest of us :) And to make the day even better we met a couple of horses in the dunes and Janus convinced the riders to let Lucas try to ride one of the horses - so it ended up being a very, very good day :) |
G&PThis is our blog - we use this to keep track of what we've done and where we've been.... as we can't always remember :) Archives
