To celebrate the end of my radiation treatments Per gave me a trip to Langkawi in Malaysia. We both needed a break and we needed to relax somewhere else than home. Also Per has fed me breakfast, lunch and dinner for three months now - and we just needed to have somebody taking care of us and pamper us a bit. So Per had chosen a 5-star resort with 3 restaurants and a lovely spa, so that we could just stay at the resort and not having to go anywhere - so truly relaxing.

We were supposed to have left for Europe in May - but on 7th April I was diagnosed with a rare kind of cancer in my salivary gland and it had spread to my lymph nodes in my neck. The cancer was aggressive so if we'd left for Europe I wouldn't have been alive today - so how lucky that I decided to see my doctor before we left for Europe..... :)
I had surgery on 19 April and big tumor was removed and 24 lymph nodes - only 4 was cancerous. Unfortunately the tumor had grown into my facial nerve, which means they had to sewer the nerve very close to the brain - and left my left side of my face paralyzed. But after 10 hours of surgery, with three surgeons working at the same time - I came out the 'other end' alive and 'well' :) I'm now having radiation therapy over the next 2 months and then we should be ready to travel again. So the trip from May has been postponed till mid September, where we'll go to Denmark and then to Sardinia in Italy. And - that's going to be a very special trip as you can probably imagine. Here's what my face looked like about a month after surgery - still very swollen.... |
G&PThis is our blog - we use this to keep track of what we've done and where we've been.... as we can't always remember :) Archives
