Yesterday we drove from White Mountains to Newport - about a 5 hours drive to south of Boston. And oh my - was it beautiful. The brown and golden colours around White Mountains and then the more south we got - the more red colours as we caught up with peak season around Boston. Just look at this one........ Orange and yellow and will probably go red within a day or two. It just happens so fast - and it's hard to plan to be there at JUST the right moment - but it seems we've succeeded :) Newport (the state of Rhode Island) is a coastal town like Bar Harbour in Maine - but with fewer tourists, pew :) This also means that the shops here are more 'normal' shops. In Bar Harbour it was all about touristy things, with snow globes and t-shirts...... Shops and houses here in Newport are very cute - little cozy houses and shops - at least in town itself. Once you get just outside of town - you'll find the most amazing mansions along Ocean Drive. Apparently in 'the old days' people from Boston needed to get out of town when it was too hot, so they had their summer residences here in Newport. (Can't help wonder what their 'normal' houses looked like - if this is 'just' their summer residences.........
