It's actually not easy to eat healthy in US..... Driving from Boston Sunday morning to Bar Harbor took us about 5 hours and it's not like in Europe where there are rest areas along the motorway with reasonably good food. There are a few rest areas, but if you want food you need to exit the motorway and then you can choose between; Burger King, McDonald's, KFC, Dunkin Donut, etc. Not a 'normal' cafe where you can get something healthy to eat. Yesterday we ended up at an Applebee's - because it said; Bar and Grill and yes, I DID get a salad, but somehow the salad was tasteless and the eggs in there were completely round - not the usual oval - like they've done something to the eggs - I'll have to research....
And then there's the size of the meals of course. I know everything is bigger in US - but these portion sizes are completely insane.......
We had dinner in the hotel on the first night - and the restaurant was supposedly Italian - so I ordered something that I love eating when in Italy - but here in US the meat was - of course - fried....... so not the healthy meal I had expected.....
But at least Bar Harbor itself seems like a cozy little town - until the cruise ships arrived..... and then suddenly there were people everywhere. Apparently in season, 2-3 big cruise ships arrive every day......
