Per's done a lot of wine-tasting and I've tried to get on top of things and get better. Wednesday we both drove to Russian River Valley and had lunch on the way - and Per did a few tastings on the way back. Sonoma is lovely - but not as charming - I think - as Napa Valley. Also a lot of the vineyards have tastings by appointment only or doing special tastings which include food and wine - and very expensive. So it's definitely not like in New Zealand!
But - that said - it's amazing how friendly and polite the Americans are. The moment you try to cross the road - the cars just stop and let you cross the road (and I'm not taking about pedestrians crossings). And when sitting outside on the veranda with a glass of wine - or a cup of tea - they all wave and yell 'hello'. So it feels really nice.
Yesterday I did the longest walk I've done on my crutches I think (maybe 500 m.......) - and oh my - I was so sore in the evening. My muscles felt like I'd run 20 km. So it's going to take a long time to get me back in shape...... but little by little....
This morning oldest daughter - Mette - called at 5am to sing Happy Birthday. She thought we were in the Boston area, which would have been 8am. But that gave us a good reason to say Happy Birthday and exchange gifts :)))))) And then go back to sleep :)
